Much of the American political system, as it came to be when the Constitution was drafted in the late-1780s, hinged on this seemingly innocuous, yet incredibly crucial polling process. The 15th Amendment, 19th Amendment and the Voting Rights Act are examples of the system’s imperfections and the vast efforts made to improve the vote by activists, the government and its citizens. But the voting process is still needs work.
