Emerson College is the only comprehensive college or university in the country dedicated exclusively to teaching communication and the visual, media and performing arts in a liberal arts context. Founded in 1880 as a school of oratory, Emerson has evolved into a multi-faceted college that is nationally and internationally recognized for excellence in its fields of specialization, which are communication, communication sciences and disorders, journalism, the performing arts, visual and media arts and writing, literature and publishing.
