Science for the Public is a grassroots nonprofit organization committed to the promotion of adult science literacy. The organization hosts public presentations by scientists at Boston Public Library, a community science TV series, and online science resources. Citizen participation is actively encouraged in the development of our programs and resources. Today, many of the most pressing issues of modern life require the expertise of scientists. Citizens must therefore have a reasonable understanding of science in order to function as responsible members of society. Further, as the pace of scientific discovery accelerates, modern citizens must be able to grasp new concepts and information that are reshaping our perspectives. Although the issue of science literacy is now being addressed at the K-12 level, there is no science curriculum for the adult population. And it is the adult population that votes, pays taxes and raises children.

Science in the News (SITN) is a Graduate Student Group at the Harvard Graduate School of the Arts and Sciences. Its mission is to bridge the communication gap between scientists and non-scientists. SITN accomplishes this by providing free seminars, lessons, social events, and written material on varying science topics for the general public. SITN provides science PhD students the chance to hone their communication skills by hosting these events and by giving feedback on their presentations and articles.

The Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy is a Harvard University research center dedicated to exploring and illuminating the intersection of press, politics and public policy in theory and practice. It is part of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Speculative Boston is a reading series for science fiction, fantasy, and horror of all kinds. Each Speculative Boston event invites two to three authors to read from their works and have a conversation. Featuring new releases and new authors, the series is a celebration of the thriving community of speculative fiction writers and fans in the New England area.

Suffrage100MA is a non-profit, non-partisan organization, dedicated to commemorating the 100th anniversary of the adoption of the 19th Amendment, which prohibits the federal and state governments from denying citizens the right to vote on the basis of sex. It took a 72+ year struggle, by thousands of suffragists, to achieve adoption of the 19th Amendment in August of 1920.

A main goal of Suffrage100MA is to commemorate and tell the story of the remarkable achievement of the suffragists, including the tireless work and essential contributions of women of color, who were often excluded by white women’s suffrage organizations, and whose role in the suffrage movement has been largely overlooked.

Suffrage100MA presents events and activities that highlight the intersectional herstory of the women’s suffrage movement and women’s rights.

Suffrage100MA is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization that partners and collaborates with many organizations in Massachusetts and throughout the country that are also planning events to recognize this historic occasion.
