National Preparedness Series

September is designated National Preparedness Month by Homeland Security and the American Red Cross, who are working to highlight the importance of public emergency preparedness through awareness, education, and volunteerism.

PBS broadcast two programs to encourage citizens to think about what could happen and how decisions are made during a biological attack, or a port attack by terrorists. In the Balance offers "Bio Attack" and "City Under Siege" that feature hypothetical scenarios, but real dilemmas without speechwriters or rehearsals, moderated by Cynthia McFadden and Charles Ogletree. Leaders put their values to the test and reveal what they might do when everything hangs IN THE BALANCE. Issues include how the threat of terrorism has changed us and how the threat should change us in the future.
