Big Business: The Good Corporate Citizen Series

Public talks curated around In Search of the Good Corporate Citizen that weaves together expert panel discussions with personal accounts from real-life white-collar criminals and whistleblowers.

Everyday we hear about business people who gamble on ethics to meet business goals. The ongoing stream of scandals begs the question, “Why does this keep happening?”

“Business Ethics in a Global Market“ This show explores this central question: As business increasingly globalizes, what “rules of the road” apply? For example, how do Western companies operate in economies where corruption is endemic, how do divergent regional perspectives on ethics affect business conduct locally, and how do companies establish a basis of trust in the integrity of foreign suppliers?

“Corporate Social Responsibility” Increasingly, companies around the world are moving from a defensive posture toward business ethics – i.e., protecting against possible ethical lapses – to a proactive one, namely choosing to take “responsible” actions in the absence of any law requiring that they do so. This show probes the strategies leading companies are taking to become sustainable, responsible businesses. It also explores the boundaries between “doing good” vs. promoting shareholder value.

In Search of the Good Corporate Citizen was produced by Light On Productions in association with Connecticut Public Television as the presenting PBS station.
