Second Life: Perceptually Immersive Spaces

October 30, 2008
John Lester Linden Lab

John Lester talks about Second Life, an online social role-playing world platform. Lester, a self-described “academic evangelist” who goes by the avatar Pathfinder Linden, has made it his mission to expand the use of Second Life from its 1.2 million social users into the education, research, and scientific communities. According to Lester, “virtual worlds have the power to free us from the bonds of our own biology by opening new vistas for interaction. We didn’t evolve to have the written word as our only mode of communication.”
