Restructuring Urban High Schools: Report Card

May 12, 2004
Adria Steinberg program director, Jobs for the Future
James A. Caradonio superintendent, Worcester Public Schools
Paul Reville exec. director, Center Education Research, MassINC

Adria Steinberg, Program Director of Jobs for the Future, gives a keynote address focused on national high school reform efforts, initiating a discussion about education reform in Massachusetts. Steinberg addresses issues in the Boston school system, while James Caradonio, Superintendent of the Worcester Public Schools, shares the Worcester experience. Paul Reville, Executive Director of the Rennie Center, moderates the discussion.

For every 10 students who start high school, seven will get a diploma, five will enroll in a post-secondary institution, and fewer than three will complete a bachelor's degree within 10 years. These numbers have sparked high school restructuring movements throughout the country. The Rennie Center for Education Research and Policy at MassINC and the Worcester Regional Research Bureau co-present this discussion in order to highlight and explore two Massachusetts high school restructuring efforts.
