Putin, Petroleum, Power and Patronage

April 10, 2006
Marshall I. Goldman professor emeritus, economics, Wellesley College

Marshall Goldman discusses his book, Putin, Petroleum, Power and Patronage: The Dog Barks but the Caravan Moves On. An internationally recognized authority on Russian economics, politics, and environmental policy, Marshall Goldman is known for his study and analysis of the careers of Russian presidents and the economics of high technology and energy. A frequent visitor to the republics of the former Soviet Union, he meets regularly with business leaders, diplomats and officials at the highest levels of government. Given the importance of oil to the world's economies and using his vast knowledge of Russian politics and economics, Goldman outlines the powerful and precarious position in which President Vladimir Putin finds himself.
