Gregory S. Stone relates details of the recent designation of the world's third largest marine protected area around the Phoenix Islands in the central Pacific. This talk combines expeditionary science with ocean conservation themes and includes accounts of diving in Antarctica, living in an undersea research station, and coral reef research in the remotest parts of the South Pacific Ocean.
