Murder in the Name of Honor

November 6, 2009
Rana Husseini writer

Journalist, feminist, and human rights defender Rana Husseini discusses her new book Murder in the Name of Honor: The True Story of One Woman's Heroic Fight Against an Unbelievable Crime.

Claiming the lives of 5,000 women every year, and common in many traditional societies around the world, so-called "Honor Killings" involve a "punishment" - often death or disfigurement - carried out by a relative to restore the family's honor. Taking us from the narrow alleys of Old Amman to the war-torn region of Baghdad, from the bustling streets of Derby in the UK to the quiet suburbs of St. Louis, USA, Husseini breaks through the conspiracy of silence surrounding this crime, and gives and unflinching look at one of the most brutal practices that still exists in the modern world.
