Media’s Mixed Messages to Women

March 29, 2009
Caryl Rivers professor, journalism, Boston University
Rosalind Chait Barnett executive director, Community, Families and Work, Brandeis

Caryl Rivers and Rosalind Barnett discuss current research on women and work, which finds that the mass media proliferates messaging that is in extreme conflict with the reality of women's lives. The messages are most misleading in representing how long women are working now that they are living well into their 90's; how stagnant their wages are in comparison to those of men; and the fact that women now outnumber men in the US workforce.

Special thanks to Cambridge Community Television for producing and contributing this video.
