Greater Boston: Massachusetts 2020: Can We Compete?

January 17, 2007
Emily Rooney host, Greater Boston, WGBH
Jared Brown reporter, WGBH TV
Christopher Anderson chairman, MA Board of Education

A panel of experts discuss how well Massachusetts schools are preparing students to compete in a global economy. What knowledge and skills will be needed for the jobs of the future? And what more can be done to close the education gap between affluent and disadvantaged students?

Hosted by Emily Rooney, the town-meeting style event features a panel of experts including state Board of Education Chairman Christopher Anderson as well as a studio audience of parents, students, educators, and business and political leaders. The program's live elements are augmented by taped segments, including video clips featuring Massachusetts students, corporate leaders and a one-on-one interview with Governor Deval Patrick on his views on education and global competition. The special also includes an interactive component: during the broadcast, viewers take an online poll and e-mail their comments and Greater Boston's Jared Bowen reports on the e-mails and poll results during the program.
