March 28, 2009
Ragini Tharoor Srinivasan editor, India Currents
Carolyn Ji Jong Goossen associate editor, New American Media
Shruti Swamy freelance writer, India Currents
Ragini Tharoor Srinivasan, Carolyn Ji Jong Goossen, and Shruti Swamy examine the history, purpose, and politics of ethnic and community media outlets. Looking closely at publications such as India Currents magazine, the blog Stuff White People Like, and the newspaper La Opinion, they explore the ways that these media relate to the mainstream media. Srinivasan, Goossen, and Swamy also discuss writing for ethnic publications, delimiting ethnic content, and relationships between ethnic outlets and their readers.
